Amitav Ghosh
(1956-) He is a Bengali Indian author best known for his work in the English language. Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize. His most notable non-fiction writing is "In an Antique Land" which revolves around two visits made by Ghosh to two villages in the Nile Delta and also includes a fictionalized history of a 12th century Jewish merchant, Abraham Ben Yiju, and his slaves Ashu and Bomma, using documents from the Cairo Geniza.
